Visiting Artist Program

The PMC Guild of Australia-New Zealand is continuing the Visiting Artist Program to promote education, new skills and technologies to its members. We are proud to announce that the visiting artist for 2009 is Hadar Jacobson from the U.S.A.

Hadar Jacobson is a jewellery artist, teacher and writer. In 1997 she came from Israel with her family to live in Berkeley, California. A year after silver metal clay was released in the USA, she found it in a catalogue, while looking for supplies for her metal smithing work. Hadar went on to discover the endless possibilities that this medium introduced for textures and she almost completely converted to metal clay. Over the years she has been trying to incorporate copper and bronze into her work and in 2004 she made her own copper and bronze clay. After extensive research, she has found a reliable shortened firing schedule for these clays. She is currently testing ways of combining the three metals.

Hadar's unique style is readily identifiable and over years of experience, she has explored and developed many innovative metal clay techniques, such as Flexible Clay. Her ability to see texture in everything gives her work an edge and this is clearly shown in her first self published book; The Handbook of Metal Clay – Textures and Forms.

Hadar is a gifted artisan who is generous in sharing her techniques and skills with her students. As a participant in these workshops you will gain knowledge of up to date methods of combining clays, mechanisms to join work and create hollow forms. Hadar is also known for her wonderful techniques for finishing, patina applications and assembly. These are all skills which will be explored in the classes.

This year the visiting artist will be teaching in Sydney and Melbourne only. The demand for a place in her classes is expected to be high. Financial members of the PMC Guild will be given a discount and first opportunity to join the classes until 17th April. Classes will then be open to the general public. Please see the online booking form for details.

Hadar has self published two books:

The Handbook of Metal Clay: Textures and Forms
Silver and Bronze Clay, Movement and Mechanisms
